KCPL and Your Mobile Device

KCPL services are available to mobile users in two fundamental ways

Our goal is to make the information in our library systems available in standard formats that are device-independent while maintaining the security of your personal information.

Phone Applications

KCPL does not have a custom mobile application that gives users access to all library services but there is a growing suite of service-specific applications available to our patrons with mobile devices.

RedLaser

RedLaser logo

RedLaser is comparison shopping application for the iPhone ® that will give you information about the availability of an item by taking a picture of its UPC/bar code with your phone's camera.

When you "scan" a book in this way the app will search known retail inventories for the title and return all known locations and prices. We have configured KCPL's collection so RedLaser can search it too. Find a book in the store, scan the UPC, and the app will let you know if we have the book–our price is always free.

Mobile-Friendly Web Pages

All of KCPL's services should work in your mobile device's web browser but some are specially designed to make pages viewed this way more usable.

WorldCat Mobile ®

WorldCat

WorldCat.org lets you search the collections of libraries in your community and thousands more around the world. WorldCat grows every day thanks to the efforts of librarians and other information professionals.

WorldCat Mobile ® is specially designed interface to WorldCat® where you can search for popular books, music CDs and videos—all of the physical items you're used to getting from libraries. You can also discover many new kinds of digital content, such as downloadable audiobooks.

e-Library and KanawhaLibrary.org

Both the library's website and the e-Library interface to the catalog and "My Account" features are designed so a mobile user can disable the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) associated with the page so it can viewed in a linear way that mobile users may find easier to navigate.

See your web browser's help files to learn how disable CSS.
