The Printz Award for Young Adult Literature is named after Michael L. Printz, who was a school librarian in Topeka, Kansas and a longtime member of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). It is awarded to work that shows great Young Adult Literary Excellence.
National Book Award for Young People
One of the categories of the National Book Awards -- the nation's preeminent literary prize -- given by the National Book Foundation to recognize books of exceptional merit written by Americans.
Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Award
The purpose of the Pennsylvania Young Reader's Choice Award is to promote reading of quality books by young people in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, to promote teacher and librarian involvement in children's literature, and to honor authors whose work has been recognized by the children of Pennsylvania.
The Pura Belpré Award, established in 1996, is presented to a Latino/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.
Senior Young Reader's Choice Award
The Pacific Northwest Library Association's Young Reader's Choice Award was established in 1940 to promote reading for enjoyment. Children and young adults of Alberta, Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington select the winners from nominees submitted by librarians, teachers, students and others. Books must be published within the previous 3 years to be eligible.
The Virginia State Reading Association established the Young Readers Program in 1981-1982 with the Purpose:
- to encourage — young readers to become better acquainted with contemporary books with outstanding literary appeal
- to broaden students' awareness of literature as a life-long pleasure
- to encourage reading aloud in classrooms as a means of introducing reading for pleasure, and
- to honor favorite books and their authors.
