Beat the summer doldrums with KCPL's Britton Summer Reading Club for adults. Register for the 10th annual program at your local library beginning Tuesday, June 1. You are still required to read six books, but this year you can choose one each from six of the ten categories listed below.
Books must be checked out from a KCPL library. Unabridged audiobooks, Playaways and WVDeli e-Books also count. Children's titles are not acceptable. To complete the program, you must:
Club members are invited to a special program on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. (location to be announced). In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the publication of To Kill a Mockingbird, local actors Rick Brown, Lilly Odekirk and Julie Wirts will perform Atticus, young Scout and older Scout Finch in a scene from the play. The three local actors are reprising their roles from a 2006 Kanawha Players production. Light refreshments will follow the presentation.
Tin is the traditional 10th wedding anniversary gift. In celebration of our 10th anniversary, those who complete the program will receive a handcrafted cookie cutter in the shape of the state of West Virginia from the Little Fox Cookie Cutters Factory, and their names will be entered into a grand prize drawing for a special tin cup crafted by local artisan Jiles (Jay) Mabe.
